Apple Introduces Night Shift in iOS 9.3 Update

Apple Introduces Night Shift in iOS 9.3 Update

We are meant to spend about a third of our lives asleep, however the reality is likely to be that we allow our lifestyles, stress and the desire to finish the binge watching session of Daredevil season two greatly reduce the amount of time we spend in dreamland. A fairly recent problem that has compounded our ability to get a good nights sleep is our addiction to our mobile devices. Apparently the wavelengths of blue light that emanate from our little screens disrupts our circadian rhythm and makes our bodies believe it is still daylight outside. In a bid to counter this issue Apple has introduced the new Night Shift mode in its recent iOS9.3 update. Other platforms and third party developers have previously offered similar capabilities but this is the first time Apple has introduced such a feature into it’s own OS.

Interestingly the mode does not appear to be on by default so you will have to delve into the setting to activate it. Simply follow this procedure…

Settings —> Display & Brightness —> Night Shift Night Shift Option

From here you can turn on the feature and set up either a user defined Schedule or simply decide to use the Sunrise/Sunset option.

There is also a shortcut button now located on Control Centre screen.

Once the mode is active you will notice that as the day ends your iOS devices screen will slowly have a more yellow tinted look and is no longer so harsh on your eyes. This will hopefully no longer trick your brain into thinking it’s still daylight and will hopefully assist you being able to sleep easier.

Does it work? Many who have being using the mode from the Beta releases say they have noticed an improvement but only you will be able to decide if it is working for you.

Have you tried the new mode and discovered that you can fall easily into a nights sleep or do you think it’s just a load of new age phooey? Let us know in the comments below and sweet dreams.
