Facebook Acquires Moves. Getting In On The Fitness Game?

After Nike mentions Apple and tying them in with a potential iFuelBand, Facebook is also getting in on the action and has acquired the fitness App "Moves" for iOS

The social network bought the iPhone fitness tracking app "Moves" last week. Moves lets users create an activity diary by automatically recording, walking, cycling and running. In announcing the acquisition Facebook called moves an incredible tool for the millions of people who want to better understand their daily fitness activity. That might be the case but this strikes us as another strange purchase by Facebook

Moves might be another way for more data collection, perhaps more targeted ads but doesn't seem like an automatic fit then again neither does VR powerhouse Oculus for which Facebook paid $2 billion

Moves users are freaking out about the Facebook acquisition both Moves and Facebook would really rather you didn't. In a statement outside the team behind Moves said the moves experience will continue to operate as a stand-alone app and there are no plans to change that were co-mingle data with Facebook.

That's the bit which is hard to imagine Facebook is not interested not data but there it is right there on the webpage. Neither Facebook nor moves parent company proto-Geo oyd disclose terms of the deal.

Moves is Available In The App Store and as of writing has received 4 stars from 679 ratings.
