Wifi Calling For AT&T customers Enabled in iOS 9.3.. with some caveats

Something new was turned on in iOS 9.3 for AT&T customers this week. Eligible customers received a text message this week letting them know that Wi-Fi calling now works for calls back to the states when traveling abroad

Up until now Wi-Fi calling for AT&T customers restricted them to using the service only from the US, Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands but now it is open to any country except for a few exceptions, meaning an AT&T Wi-Fi calling user can make calls to the US or receive calls from the US anywhere in the world as long as there's a Wi-Fi connection.

There are a couple of caveats is only good

people traveling in the UK who call UK number will be billed at the international rate

  • for calls or texts to or from the US using WiFi calling
  • People traveling in the UK who call UK number will be billed at the international rate
  • Limited availability.

There are countries in which the service won't work even if Wi-Fi is available. Those include
China

Saudi Arabia

India

Turkey

Israel

United Arab Emirates

Vietnam
Pakistan

Cuba
Iran

North Korea

Sudan

Syria
